June 2026

Year 1 had a fabulous time at Hyde Hall, linking to our science topics of plants and trees. We went on a scavenger hunt for fallen petals and leaves and made a bookmark, we made a bird nest using a 'beak' to pick up natural objects and we looked at lots of different artifacts that were found at Hyde Hall. We came home with a lot of goodies and great memories!

Year 3 had a fantastic time on their first residential to Colchester Castle. The children completed lots of activities, including a full tour, object handling as well as a craft activity. The best part of course was having a sleepover in the castle!

Year 1 loved combining all our sewing skills to make the final product, a monster hand warmers! Thank you to all the adults who volunteered their time too!

Year 2 enjoyed cutting, slicing, dicing & grating our fillings to make quesadillas, after baking we enjoyed eating them too!

Year 2 Had a fantastic time visiting Boydells Farm!

Year 1 have been using clay to make smooth pebbles for our 3D art unit. It was lots of fun to mould the clay!

Year 5 are enjoying their VR day, learning about Ancient Greece and Space.

Crazy hair, kids rule and teachers stuck to the wall. We are in full swing for Red Nose Day!

Year 1 Outdoor Maths

Year 1 Made the most of the amazing sunshine and took part in an outdoor maths trail counting in 10s!

YR1 Food Tasting

Year 1 Took part in some food tasting yesterday to try the different tastes in science including sweet and sour!

Year 1 finished our unit on structures by applying everything we had learnt into constructing towers. We used different joins to link our towers together.

Year 4 had a very exciting time today meeting some wonderful creatures to support their Science learning. Thank you to Exotic Explorers for bringing them to see us!

Our Reception children enjoyed their first full day at school and particularly enjoyed their first time eating lunch in the dinner hall!

Year 2 enjoyed celebrating National Writing day today by becoming authors and creating stories based on a nursery rhyme or traditional tale.

Year 6 have enjoyed making collaborative sculptures based on the work on glass artist Dale Chihuly

Year 5 have had a fantastic day learning about structures in DT. They have used their knowledge of different joins, braces and structures to create their own Anderson shelters. As you can see, they enjoyed putting them together at the end to make a town!

Yesterday (20/05) Grove celebrated National Numeracy Day. Each year group spent the day completing a range of maths related activities, including setting up ice cream shops, cooking, solving maths riddles and creating 3D shapes. Well done to all the children for working so hard all day!

Year 2 enjoyed making a healthy potato rosti snack this week.

Year 3 had a fantastic day following the Rayleigh Heritage Trail and visiting the Windmill !

Mr Banks and Miss Clarke are so proud of the Sportshall athletics team. Who won the district competition and will now compete at the county final!

Our school has recently been awarded the Eco Schools Green Flag Award. Well done to our Eco Club children who have worked hard to make our school more eco-friendly, tidy and clean.

As part of British Science Week, Year 2 have had the opportunity to make their own slime! As you can see the children absolutely loved watching the reaction happen and then playing with their slime.

The Deanes Community Bike Loan Scheme

This is an initiative in partnership with Active Essex and the Bikeability Trust, whereby The Deanes SSP has been able to create a community cycling hub with a stock of adult and junior bikes for local families to borrow free of charge.
