Welcome to the Foundation Stage at Grove Wood Primary School.

We would like children in our Reception year to enjoy a hugely positive and rich experience. We know children learn best when they are excited and engaged. Our aim is for children at Grove Wood to love learning. It is important that home and school work together in developing an effective partnership to facilitate this.

Between the ages of three to six children learn faster and develop more rapidly than at any other time during their life. We believe this learning should be a pleasurable and rewarding experience, in which children explore, investigate, create, think, discover, practise, rehearse, repeat, revise and consolidate their developing knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes.

At Grove Wood Primary School all areas of the curriculum are equally important in Reception and our learning is based on the key Early Years principles of the unique child, positive relationships, enabling environments and learning & development. The skills, characteristics of learning and ideas acquired during a year in Reception provide children with a firm foundation for their future development.

The Foundation Stage is an exciting place where children learn through:

Ø Structured play

Ø Talking to others

Ø Investigating and discovering

Ø Making choices

Ø Thinking and reflecting

Ø Working in groups and independently
